Anyone read Christopher Moore?
« on: October 30, 2005, 10:53:38 pm »
I've now read three of his books and all I can say is that they make me laugh my butt off!  lol  My friend Erik introduced them to me and I just finished Fluke last night.  What an odd book!  :D  I do have to say that Lamb is becoming one of my favorites though.  I think that I've read it 4 times already since March!  lol

Just wondering if anyone else here has read some of his stuff?

I read Fluke.  It took me a little while to get into it, but I liked it overall.  Haven't read anything else yet....  I am still trying to start "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" and "The Historian".  Those ought to take me awhile!

"Lamb" is the funniest book I've EVER read!!!  Absolutely hysterical!   I didn't think "Fluke" was nearly as funny...much more contrived.

They are wicked contrived, but still really funny. I have read fluke, Island of the Sequined Love Nun, and The stupidest angel. Of them, I thought the love nun one was the funniest, and I wish I hadn't read the stupid angel until after I had read more of his books because it was full of jokes from other books.

Phew, I'm so happy that I'm not the only girl that's read them.  lol  My friends told me they're mostly written for guys.  ::)  Whatever...

I've read Lamb, Practical Guide to Demon Keeping and Fluke.  Like I said before, I think Lamb is turning out to be one of my favorite books of all time.  The other two were funny, but not nearly touching the amazingness(is that even a word?) of Lamb.  LOL

I saw the Stupidest Angel and am wondering if its connected to Lamb at all and I want to save it for last since its the newest one?  I have most of his other books here to read but not sure which one I'll do next.  Any suggestions?

I read "Jonathan Strange"....good, but I don't think it's as good as "The Historian".  I'm in the middle of that now and loving it!

I have started "Jonathan Strange" twice now.  Both times, I have liked what I read, but I keep putting it down and not picking it back up.  I think it is one of those books that I just have to be in exactly the right mood to get going on....  I can't wait to start "The Historian"!

It is connected to lamb. Actually, it is connected to all of his books since at least one character from each shows up in it. Save it for last so you can enjoy all the jokes

Ok, that's good to know.  Now to decide which one of his to read next!  ;D

Regarding "Jonathan Strange..", I've never heard of that one.  I looked around and it seems interesting from the reviews.  Has anyone ever read "Iron Dragon's Daughter" by Michael Swanwick or "Faerie Tale" by Raymond Feist?  The little I read about Jonathan Strange, it seems to remind me somewhat of those.

Another book that I'd like to read is "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini.  Its always caught my eye in the store and I love fantasy/sci fi books.  Has anyone read this?  Some of my fav books were Anne Mccaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series and Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince/Sunrunner books.  I love dragons, so it seems down that alley.  :)

Ok, I'll shush now.  LOL  I could go on forever about different books!  ;)

ROFL  You too Jenn?   ;D  I was the same way with both Dragonriders and Eyes of the Dragon.  You have to read the Dragon Prince Trilogies by Melanie Rawn.  They are more adult, but definitely great.  I'll let you know how Eragon is, because I'm sure I'll be getting it soon.

A couple more books popped into my head that I read when I was younger.  Anyone ever read "Tailchaser's Song" by Tad Williams or "The Birth of the Fire Bringer" by.. Meredith Ann Pierce(had to look it up).  They were like "Watership Down", but one was Cat based and the other was Unicorn based.  I still read "Tailchaser's Song" occasionally, great book!

I grew up watching the movie, "The Last Unicorn", but never read that book.   :-[  Another one added to my list.  lol

I forgot to add these links for "Tailchaser's Song" and Melanie Rawn's books.

I've only read the Dragon Prince and the Dragon Star trilogies, haven't tried the others yet.

Its so funny how I can love these and also Michael Crichton at the same time.  Yeah, I'm wierd.  ;D
