Whatever he is, he's beautiful!  Looks like a black mastiff to me (but I only know one Mastiff -- and I've never seen a black one).

An english and neo mix maybe with a little bit of pig thrown in to get that cute curly tail! ;D

OMG that baby looks sooooooo much like Willow (neo mastiff) in the face, but that tail is so not mastiffy at all. Whatever he might be he is gorgeous.

Jesse is about 75 lbs, and at least that much underweight- he is ALL bones and skin.  He is currently 25" at the withers, and is supposed to be almost a year old.   I never thought of that- he DOES have the size and structure, and tail of a shar-pei.

I'm going to agree- either Neo-Shar Pei mix or Mastiff-Shar Pei mix. He's beautiful!

I was just thinking that.  I had a black Giant Shar Pei once and she looked a lot like that.  She was a good girl! I see some lab and rottie in there too.  He looks like Rocco!

What a handsome fella!  :-*
Definitely looks mastiffy. :D The curly tail is adorable, and doesn't necessarily indicate sharpei in my opinion... Nigel has a curly tail like that and he is Bloodhound/Boxer/St.Bernard. Also, have you ever seen a Rottie with a tail? They are curly... ;) :D

I was thinking Cane Corso or Neo, don't they normally have their tails docked?  I know since aussies are normally docked, ones that are left undocked have a whole slew of different tail lengths and styles.  The reason being that they were never bred for how their tails looked so if they're left on they're kind of hodge podge.  :D

He is a dark brindle, a little bit of fawn thrown in for accent, and a tiny white patch on the chest.  When he is standing he looks like he should fall on his face, cuz his head is way too big for his little bony body!

I agree....he sure is a handsome fella.  As for the breed the tail reminds me of an Akita.

Guess I will have to do some more research into all the possible breeds, and see how he looks when he gets his weight back to where it should be.  Thanks for all the input!  You will be happy to know that no matter WHAT he is, he will be well loved and WILL learn manners sooon!

Shar's have WAAAY curlier tails than that, i would guess he just got that from way back (like from a messed up mastiff)

BTW, this is in response to smudges and gauges and mr. grey's and zeus' mommy. (or daddy) hehe!
