In Memory of Barkley - May 19/06
« on: May 20, 2006, 02:58:10 pm »
I thought the best way to pay tribute to my Bark-a-lark was to share some of the pictures that were on the films we had developed today.

Look....do I spot a treat?

Forget the treat ... did Mom just say "walk"?

It's hard work guarding this treat cupboard!

My favourite place ... the boardwalk.

You'd think Mom would move the scoopy bag before clicking...rea lly...the indignity of it all!

Despite my demon eyes here ... she really was my best friend.

Godspeed big man ... see you at Rainbow Bridge!

Those pictures showed so much of Barkley's personality.  He was a beautiful, precocious looking sweetheart.  Your pictures have me crying.  It's such a painful and loving thing you did.

Thanks for asking.  We have definitely had our share of teary moments here today, but we're doing ok.  It helped to get those films developed today.  Seeing him in that happy, healthy state just a few weeks ago made us realize that to have asked him to live without his dignity in place for one more day would have been cruel.

Going through all the firsts today was hard.  Folding up his blankets, only filling one bowl at supper, not buying treats by the gross today, and then having to leave poor Sheba all by herself today.  Those were hard things to get through, but we've done it once now and it will get a bit easier each time.

As everyone here knows too well, it hurts like crazy, but we do manage to move through it.  I will just keep looking at that goofy face poked through the door and tilted just the way he did when you said the "w" word, and remember that we did the right thing by our best friend.

My husband was all teary eyed (you know, in a manly kinda way...lol) when I showed him the messages of support in Barkley's thread yesterday.  Although I know it made people sad yesterday, I cannot even begin to express our gratitude for your caring.  Thanks again.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family - losing your best friend is a pain that we all fear and know we will face one day.

Wise words, those!!  It will get easier and easier but he'll never be forgotten.  I think the really special guys just find a special corner of your heart and never, ever leave you....just as he's taken a good part of you with him to be with him forever.

When Cowboy and I go to do our therapy work, I often tell our special patients that Cowboy is an angel whose wings are just folded up tight so we can't see them.  I think Barkley just spread his wings yesterday....

Those pictures and narrations were great Sandy. Barkley will live on here on BPO as he will in your heart for years to come. He lived a great life and was clearly loved as much as any dog could be. Again, our condolences for your beautiful boy.
Hugs,
