I am so glad no one is freaking out...
« on: June 06, 2006, 09:36:12 am »
at this whole June 6, 2006 date thing.  My girlfriend posted the following on her blog today and I wanted to share.  Have a great 6/6/6!  <OOOOOOOooooo-SCARY GHOST SOUND> :P

What does it all mean?

What is today? It’s 06/06/06 or 6/06/2006.
Why do we have to abbreviate it to get it to read 666?

What is 666?

666 is "the number of the beast” according to Revelations 13:18. A person, not an indication of any date!
666 is the sum of all the numbers on a roulette wheel.
666 is part of every UPC barcode on groceries (a coincidence according to the code's inventor).
666 is the number (in biblical coding) for the WWW of the World Wide Web.
666 is commercialism based on numbers and fear.

What 666 is not:

It’s not a time to get freaked out.
It’s not a day to dread or be superstitious about. Did evil really occur on Friday 13th ?
It’s not a day to give any being any more power than you give GOD!

06-06-06 is a great day to cash in on profits if you are releasing a horror film or a book about the rapture! It’s a gimmick! It’s a way to cash in on your superstitions and fears.

It’s just a day people! June 6, 2006
There will be a tomorrow and we will call it June 7, 2006!

Quote of the Day: "Don't let us make imaginary evils, when you know we have so many real ones to encounter." ~Oliver Goldsmith (1730 - 1774)

"Not that many listen though."
"That's the problem."

I agree with that quote at the end by Oliver Goldsmith. We have so much else we can worry about, why on earth be superstitious? Just like Halloween is not an evil day either. It's just a day the Lord created. "Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS, and again I say rejoice!"

C'mon over! I have LOTS!  Hubby knows better than to ever let me run out- it would be as bad as taking away my computer access!

I would love to come have coffee with you & your beautiful dogs! ;D That's funny about your hubby not letting you run out...I stumbled downstairs this morning opened the kitchen cabinet & exclaimed "no friggin' coffee...grumb le grumble" stomp!...My daughter looked up alarmed from her book & looked at her dad & said, "Dad...you know what to do"! :D I am currently enjoying a hot steaming cup of java! :D

Your DD is a smart one!  That's too cute!

As for the 6/6/06, I really like the quote of the day you had listed... "Don't let us make imaginary evils, when you know we have so many real ones to encounter." ~Oliver Goldsmith (1730 - 1774)  I am a Christian but I don't believe that this kind of conjecture is healthy or wise.

Any day that I and all that I love can climb out of bed breathing is a great day, no matter what the date.
