A unexpected little creature visited us
« on: June 07, 2006, 04:57:15 pm »

Meet Larry, the cray fish... he was doing the shuffle up our front walk way. I thought at first that it was a giant spider or even a scorpion because he had his claws raised but when i got closer to him I realized it was a crayfish LOL.. I guess it is a signal that we have had too much rain LOL. I let Noah hang onto him for a little while and then Noah and I took him down the street to let him go in the woods/swamp.

Are crayfish the same as crawdads?

Crawdads are yummy...

I really enjoy crayfish, and I don't mean to eat!  I had a crayfish pet all winter but sadly, Pinchers died early this spring.  You should have heard that phone call to DH!  They tried to get me another one but I think it didn't know enough to stay away from my hungry turtles and it didn't last long :o  Pinchers had been around all through the turtle's quiet time of year so he learned easily to stay out of their way.  Unfortunately the new crayfish came during their famished, eat-everything-in-sight time.  Poor thing!

Here are Pinchers and the crayfish-eating turtles.  Pinchers at least did not become their lunch.  He had a decent burial.

We rescued one of those turtles just last week!  It was hotter than H&** and he was in the middle of the road, cooking on the pavement, so I picked him up and took him along on our walk to the beaver pond and put him in there.

We had a very sad incident with a Turtle a few years back.  Badger thought it was a ball and he beat the heck out of the poor thing, knocking it over and tossing it around before we realized what was going on.  I don't know if the little guy lived or not because he never stuck his head back out when we picked him up and put him in a safe spot.  I guess I can't blame him, if he was just hiding, but it would have been nice to know he was alive in there.  I LOVE turtles.
