I think everyone has made valid points.  In reference to the holistic part. Puck was walking funny and his legs seemed to let him down when he was just standing there. The vet seemed to think he  needed a back operation. She said we would have to go to a specialist in Toronto or Guelph. I went with my gut feeling and took  him to an animal chiroprator. He has been going for a year now. Keep in mind he is going every 3 months now. At first it is like when we go to a chiro--you have to go at shorter intervals to begin with then as healing starts you can go longer btn appts.

Puck at 8 years of age and now a slimmed down to 120 pounds runs around like a puppy and does not show any signs of pain.

I lost a 6 month old rotti to severe HD. I wish I would have known what I do now--esp from the people on the board. We were going to do a triple pelvic on one side and a total hip replacement on the other side. The vet went to do the first surgery and said it was worse than he thought and he would need a total hip replacment on that side too.The vet suggested putting the puppy down.

After reading what I have on this board. I always wonder now in the back of my mind if it was really as bad as they said and was it as Babs said a growing issue.

From my past experience and what I have learned since then. If I had a dog presenting HD symptoms I would wait to do any surgery until they had finished growing.IMO :)
