Here in the desert, snow and rain are not an issue.   We have sand.  Lots and lots of sand.  There is a small vacuum kept next to the dog door the Newfie uses and I clean the floor a jillion times a day.

The little dog's door is being used by a rodent on a daily basis.  It is getting into the birds' room and cleaning up their spills.  I must remember to close that door in the mornings...

we had one, but found it to be a problem because the delivery people won't come near our house, when we ARE home, let alone when we're not and axle would look OVER the 6 ft fence, and try to go after them for being in "his" yard.  our dogs are friendly, but they also know when we're not home nobody else is allowed near "their" property.  this cause a lot of conflicting emotions with us and the delivery people so we just opted against it when we moved.  just a thought.
