Gossy Got stung by a Bee on her EYE
« on: July 11, 2006, 07:45:28 pm »
I was feeding her today and this freaking bee landed on her eyelid...I swatted it away, but now it looks badly swollen.  You can't really see it in the pic, but it is the right eye (in the pic).  I gave her 1/2 a buffered aspirin, and am keeping an eye on it.  Poor girl, we get home from the camping trip from h3ll and she gets STUNG!

Ouch! Yeah, it does look a bit swollen. I would say put some alcohol or peroxide on it and some neosporin on it if she'll let you. You don't want it to get infected! Poor girl! Zoey and Dolly send some feel better soon wishes to Gossy!

Denise suggested I ice it.  She seemed to like that, now she is eating the ice...I'll keep icing it.
Do I need to take her to the vet?

I would take her to a vet. If it was in any other spot, I would suggest removing the stinger, treating with with a baking soda mixture, and icing it. But so close to the eye I would be nervous about using baking soda and paraoid that the stinger might have done more damage than I realized. Better safe then sorry

I would agree. Wait until tomorrow morning. If it looks really bad, take her in. If you're not real worried about it, just keep doing the icing, that will help with swelling and make sure to not let it get infected and you may be fine not taking her in. Follow your gut though. It may be more serious since it is in such an odd but tedious spot. But I would at least wait until tomorrow. Time will let you know how bad it is.

Cowboy and Chester send drools...it's GOT to be good for swelling and for pain!

Hopefully you'll have a quiet night and all will be fine in the morning! ;)

When Kaila ate a wasp the vet said give her a benadryl in case of an allergic reaction.  I would definitely take her to the vet if you are worried about it.  Hope, Gossy is feeling better.

If it makes you feel better, could you call your vet tonight and see if he/she thinks you should bring her in?

OK Benedryl time.  I called the vet, and the breeder and they both said give her a benadryl.  I'll keep you updated.
