Not only that, this is Standard Operating Procedure in China any time there's a rabies "outbreak."  They've been doing this for decades.

It hasn't happened in Shanghai before because China's only had control of Shanghai for a few years. It's just a matter of time before a couple of people get rabies in Hong Kong, and they do the same thing there.

I'm sorry, people can talk all they want about how horrible Western Civilization is and how the whole world has been ruined by Anglo-American agresssion, but glimpses like this of life inside mainland China, where the Western influence still hasn't had much impact makes me think that having Western values forced on them has been all for the better in most of the world.

Don't you just want to BITE one of these Chinese officials??

I have a friend from college whose parents are still in mainland China, and I've heard these stories before.  50,000 is a small dog kill from what he's told me.

And it's ALL DOGS, regardless of vaccination. Vaccinating your dog is an owner's choice to protect the dog against the disease, not to protect it from being killed to prevent the spread of rabies.

You know the truly criminal part of this?  Rabies is most often spread by RATS and other wild animals, not dogs.  Killing the dogs is just a visible step, not an actual preventative.

h*ll is far to good for these *******s. I'd prefer they spend eternity up to their necks in the river Phlegethon, which is filled with boiling blood. It's the Seventh Level of h*ll in Dante's Inferno.

Dante had some really, really great punishments, and the Phlegethon is among my personal favorites.
