Hoping to find transport help!
« on: August 29, 2006, 03:22:57 am »
I would love to adopt a dog who I feel would be perfect for our family and a perfect companion for Crede, our Saint Bernard.  The pup is able to be brought to Joliet Illinois.  I live on the far north side of Chicago.  It's about a 90-minute trip...about 60 miles give-or-take.  If you have any ideas or can help me out, I would be so appreciative!

Thank you in advance!

~~Lisa

Oh Jeez, I'm sorry...here's some info on the dog...2.5 year old 20 lb. Boston Terrier, very well socialized and supposed to be great with kids from toddlers on up and good with dogs big and small.  Lives with three kids right now and three dogs, including a Mastiff, so he's no stranger to our giants.

Sorry, my mind is just racing trying to figure out how to get this little guy into my home!  I know it seems like a short trip, but believe me, nothing's easy if you don't have a car and don't drive.  GAH!

I am on the northside of Chicago (Ravenswood/Andersonville) would love to help but wouldn't be able to make the trip until late September (9/23).  We are moving next weekend and then have family in town - which is perfect when trying to get a household in order.  Would you be able to wait until September 23rd?

Thank you sooooo much for the offer!!!  Unfortunately, the situation is that this person had fostered this dog and adopted it out three months ago.  The woman who adopted the dog (Pokey) got transferred out of state and can't or won't take the dog so she returned Pokey to the foster home.  Now the foster has three little kids, and four dogs to contend with, so she's looking to get Pokey into a good home asap.  I don't know if she'd be able to wait, but I will sure ask.  I don't want to risk losing this pup to someone else because it is SO hard to find a little dog who is proven good with toddlers AND is good with big dogs also.  It's taken me months of waiting to find him and I'm freaking out that someone else might get him and I'm back at square one, ya know?  (BTW - I'm not too far from you, in Edgewater@   ;D)

OMG I just talked to the foster who has Pokey.  She also does Chinchilla rescue and with back to school, she has TWENTY-EIGHT chinchillas also.  I told her she's a better woman than me!

I asked her if she'd be able to wait until September 23rd so we'll see!

Nope, she can't wait.  She said she's got someone coming on Friday so to let her know ASAP.  ACK!

(Is it bad that I'm supposed to be working right now?   :P )

Is there any way that you could ride the train? With a small dog, you might be able to get him in a doggie backpack thingy. I don't know if there are trains from Joliet...

I live in Michigan City, IN. Its about an hour East of Chicago, I don't know what exactly I could do to help...unless you had the person drop the dog here instead of Joliet? You're on the North side? Is that right? Maybe if the person could get the pup here instead of Joliet, I could drive the dog into the city for you. I wouldn't mind that, then I could also visit Gweck and Julie. Where is the person coming from with the dog?

Let me talk to Dale tonight and get back to you. I may be able to fill the gap. We are in Lyons, and will be in the Joliet area this week and this weekend.

Ugh!  I just talked to Pokey's foster mom and she said that if I can't find a way to get him and let her know by tonight, she's going to adopt him to someone else.  Why are people like that?   :-[

I so glad that everything worked out.  Congratulation s.

I hope to see you out in the neighborhood.  We are on the west side on Andersonville and will be hanging out at Charlie's Alehouse patio until the weather changes.
