Wonderful Rottweiler Rescue Program Worth Checking Out
« on: June 19, 2005, 05:18:26 pm »
Here is an excerpt from their site:

"In our disposable society Rottweilers are surrendered to us because their owners are moving or going on vacation, other companions are tossed aside or abandoned because of inconvenience or perhaps new carpet is more important than a loving, breathing, living companion. Irately beautiful Rottweilers come to us from everywhere, some are snatched from the cruel fate of slaughter at our "shelters" others are retired K9 Officers, many are surrendered by owners who care enough not to dump them, others are accidentally found, by some compassionate person, nearly starved and tied to trees, some are even left inside the home while they watched their  "owners"  pack their belongings and move, tossing their key to a neighbor for them to take care of, indifferent to the outcome of the living creature that depended on them...and loved them. Rotties have come to us from several different states and Canada and in many pathetic conditions, not only physically but with crushed spirits.  Many are with us for a year or longer, especially if they aren't the classical beauty, or a little older or perhaps with a health challenge or two.  Far too many have been physically beaten or otherwise traumatized and need time to mellow out, learn to trust again and find their playful spirits before they find their homes.
A true volunteer rescue, like ours, is possible ONLY because of the tremendous out pouring of kind hearted people with generous spirits and a willingness and NEED to be involved and contribute some part of themselves, their energies, time, creative spirits, ideas or other helpful contributions. .   So many people participate in the totality of a volunteer rescue and make saving lives possible.  Everyone who adopts, rather than buys, is doing their part to change the concept of "ownership" to that of a "companion", every adopted Rottweiler is afforded the opportunity of becoming a goodwill Ambassador for the breed and helps dispell the dangerous myth that all Rottweilers are dangerous."

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.  For me they are the role model for being alive.  ~Gilda Radner
