« on: September 07, 2006, 10:40:36 am »
was wondering at what age you all would recommend getting our Saint neutered?  He is now 3 mo.  Thanks for any suggestions.

I have found that at about a year, a dog has his full height and hasn't yet become so male (leg humping, etc) that he has bad habits to break after his operation.  That being said, it will cost more to do the surgery that late, because generally, procedures are based on size, so a 100 pound dog will cost considerably more to neuter than a 50 pound dog.  I know vets would prefer to do it earlier because it's easier for them.

I had a thread on this awhile ago - folks gave me lots of good info!

We are planning on getting him done at about 10 months (once the weather cools down here).  I spoke with the vet last week and its going to run us about $350 CDN if we get the suggested bloodwork done as well, without the bloodwork will be about $250CDN.  The price does go up with his weight!
