a little bit of dinner swiping!
« on: June 22, 2005, 08:47:03 pm »
Hey all,
My little yellow lab almost didn't get to eat her dinner tonight.
I have been so diligent about my dogs eating together -about 3 feet
apart in peace.  Tonight my rottie finished her meal first and lunged
at my lab to take hers.  I caught her by the collar and my yellow
gulped the rest of her food down (all labs gulp I guess-she hardly
chews a piece of kibble) I always stay somewhere nearby when they
eat and I always put Daisy's food down first.  I am re-playing the scene
in my head to find the glitch in today's meal time.  I can reach into
both dogs bowls at anytime -even remove them and put them back.
Maybe they were just really hungery tonight.  Both dogs have to do some
sitting, shaking, and speaking before the food bowl put down.
My yellow lays down and waits for me to say "ok" before she will eat.
I try to use other words and she waits for the ok.  It's fun.
I guess I'm serving good meals!  We'll see how the morning goes!

All four of my dogs are fed together.  They sit and wait until I say OK and then they go to their bowls and eat.  The puppy is 5 months old and has been doing this since he was 3 months old.  They do not try to eat the other dog's food, unless they leave it in the bowl.  Usually the bowl is empty before any of them walk away.  I have timed them to a couple of minutes, but probably will not do it any longer as they drool.

I can pet them and place my hand in the bowl, take their food away and they have no issues with it.
