not sure about Saints, but my Libby(EM) has red lower eyes, she doesn't have nice tight eyes, and when she is stressed they seem far worse.

It sure is. Apparently, the third eyelid of the saint is commonly transparent and not black like most breeds, therefore the red shines through. Also, sometimes the eyelid gets inverted and pushes back on the eye (?), making the outer lid droopy.

Adi's only droop a tiny bit. You can see it a bit in his halloween pic:

My saint Gracie always has red/pink eyes... especially when she is tired- they get more red than usual.

Just watch for a swollen red look in the inner corner, where the "third eyelid" is... Saint Bernards are prone to a condition called "cherry eye" which can cause them extreme discomfort and stress. Also if you see any kind of yellow or greenish discharge, that would be a sign of infection that would require a trip to the vet.

You might want to do some research on cherry eye just so you know what to look out for. There's a lot of info if you just google "cherry eye". :)

I hope it's just some of the inner eyelid showing and not any problem!
Good luck! ;D

That's a good point. A lhasa asha (sp?) we had growing up had to have surgery to remove a cherry eye. they're are bulbous, but it would be easier to catch if you are aware that it's a possibility... often times, they can be a reappearing problem, if the pup develops one.

i take a tissue to adi's eyes each day to get the "sleep" out of there. if you do the same, you can easily monitor the situation.

yay for saints.
