A Penny for your Thoughts!

this is penny and this is the snow that is still leftover from the weekend! wow! it still is on the ground, and, the birds have eaten all the tallow in my feeders, time to refill those!
I am so happy i am using MANUAL focus! wow, the white in this photo, had i used auto, would be glaring white! i am so pleased that everyone on the foto site i hang on kept on me for using auto all the time, and, now i am finally getting the hang of this M setting!
the contrast is fabulous! and, i am still getting the catchlight in the eyes most of the time.
the photo program gad gave us for the raw shots is fabulous to!
it is great to be learning so much and to see improvement as you go along.
this is penny in the snow yesterday.
 
for once i dont see a devilish look on her face, or do i??
The only thing i am frustrated with is loss of clarity from the upload, other places i upload a downsized foto to , the clarity sticks, for some reason fototime has a bit of loss to it.

Beautiful picture Sar, Penny looks great. I find myself using the M about 90% of the time now. I'm using Adobe Lightroom (beta stage right now) to process and it is fantastic. For firefox users to see this picture bigger right click and go view image.

seeing as you are such a great photographer! what settings do you use at night?
i tried to catch the snow the night of the snow storm and it would not even click in auto let alone m mode.
i had the 70-200 lens on and wonder if the lens was to big for a night shot?
or, was the snow falling to much that it could not capture the item i wanted to focus on?
i turned on the flash but that didnt even work.

Sar, good question. When it starts snowing here I'll let you know  . I think a flash is a must if you want the snowflakes, no longer that a 1 or 2 sec shutter speed and a 200 or 400 iso. I think to get a picture throught the snow you'll have to focus manually or lock in the focus an eqaul distance away on something not in the snow and recompose. I only have the kit lens so I make do with whatever shots I can get!!
