Licking paw
« on: November 21, 2006, 03:53:24 am »
Hi,

My two year old golden been licking her paw so much lately it almost looks discolored.  She was treated last week for an ear infection and I called the vet's attention to her paw, which looked red at that time.  She thought the ear and foot was allergy related. She started her on medication and she that would help soon.  That was one week ago.  Her ear is clearing up nicely but she is constantly after her back paw.  There are no signs of a sore.  Has anyone had anything similar?  Would there be another cause or is there something I can put on her of give her?  I am lost....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  Meg

diesel has started doing the same thing, only he has irritated it bloody, and made it into a nasty sore.  with him we are 95% sure it's because hubby bought a different type of stuff for the carpet (hubby is infatuated with carpet sprinkles) that irritates his skin.

any suggestion if they won't leave it alone long enough to heal, and the skin stays broken?

(sorry, i stole this board   :-[)we mentioned this when we went in for a check up when he started acting funny.  our vet just said to leave it alone and it'll get better, but diesel has yet to leave it alone long enough.  called vet, and he said to put vaseline on it, but i don't agree 100% with that.  another problem with it not healing is that caine bites diesel's feet when they play, which irritates it that much more, so diesel chews it that much more.
