95% beef / chicken dog food opinions??
« on: November 26, 2006, 12:23:46 am »
i found this canned dog food that is 95% beef OR chicken, with no by-products, no corn and no white rice.  i'm not sure about the protein and other levels though.  any opinions on this as a supplement instead of the satin balls would be great!

satin balls are great in theory, but diesel is starting to not eat them.  i can't figure out what ingredient he doesn't like though.

diesel is 7 months old now, 31 or 32 (i measured him and posted on previous post but can't remember) and still very skinny.  he's eating chicken soup F.A.P.L.S. large breed adult food. puppy foods tends to make him have tummy trouble, so we stick with adult food. we've had him since august 1st when he was sooo skinny, but we're having a hard time getting him to eat.  he has a clean bill of health from the vet, he just chooses not to eat.  i've tried walking him to boost his appetite, but it doesn't work.

Hmmm - is he going through his gangly skinny period?  Willow is just now starting to bulk up but she has always been on the thin side.  How much does he weigh and how old is he?

unfortunately diesel was an Ethiopian before we got him.  his "breeders" didn't take care of him, and he came to us in VERY bad shape.  i have to bring him to the vet and get him weighed.  i can't remember what the vet said he weighed last time.  we can still see his hip bones, and faintly see his ribs, and the last half of his backbone still pokes out some.  he's always been skinny, it's just that if he doesn't eat for just one meal (he eats 2 times daily, recently cut down from 3) his condition goes down very quickly, and he looks like we haven't fed him in weeks within a few hours.  he skips a lot, it's always been a task to find ways to get him interested in food.

Did that clean bill of health include blood testing for diabetes and thyroid function?

his well check didn't include that, because after his initial check-up he did really good gaining weight, and the vet has diagnosed him "finicky."  i never thought of it like the opposite of a diet, jacksmom.  maybe that's all it is!  he got his appetite back last night, thank god, maybe his system just needed a little break for a few days?
