Sasha could use some positive thoughts *UPDATE*
« on: November 26, 2006, 07:21:30 am »
My poor little Sasha!  Last night she tore her ACL.  We couldn't get any of the local vets to return calls last night (grrr), so we went to the emergency vet in Tulsa today.  She prescribed rest and Rimadyl until we can get in to see the orthopaedist at OSU (hopefully this week).  The Rimadyl is really helping, but Sasha is obviously hurting. :'(

Please send good thoughts her way!

it is reported that 70% of dogs fed gluc chond, at 1200 mg per day, have less incidance of cruciate problems,
a little to late, but, i would still get your other newf on this dosage!
good luck,
so far i have been most fortunate and have yet to experience a rip or ruptured cruciate.
my pups are raised on joint health tablets from the day they leave home, till they are oldsters.
i hope people follow my advice when i send them home to!
my vet showed me the statistics in her office one day, as i had aproached her on the subject becouse we hear of this almost every day!

Regarding the last post, could you please get the name of the study quoted from your Vet.?  I have read several studies on nutritional supplements including chondroiten and glucosamine and they all were inconclusive as to the possible benefits.

I am also interested in finding sources of both products that do testing on product quality because here in the USA supplements are not regulated the way medicine is.

You are going to a great place for the consultation and surgery.  Best of luck!

Thanks everyone!  I really appreciate your good thoughts--Sasha too!  I am just so worried!  As for glucosamine/chondroitin supplements, they are definitely good for big paws.  Actually, both of ours are on 1000 mg/d (maybe not quite enough?).  We'll up it.

Hopefully we can get to see the specialist early this week.

Thanks again!

Re: Sasha could use some positive thoughts *UPDATE*

Just wanted to post a quick update about Sasha.  She saw the orthopedist at OSU on Wednesday and had all sorts of x-rays.  Not a fun day. :(  As it turns out, Sasha only strained/sprained her ACL! :)  She is on crate rest for two weeks to help it heal fully.  Yay!

Anyone have any suggestions to help keep her occupied during her crate rest?  At the moment, she is pretty mad at us for locking her up. :P  She and Bella are both usually free in the house during the day.  Sasha is definitely insulted!

Thanks again everyone for the positive thoughts for Sasha! :-*
