« on: July 12, 2005, 10:54:24 am »
Not sure if anyone has ever encountered this. But I am looking after my brothers dane and she has a growth on her foot, it almost looks like an extra pad??? He said that he got it checked out my the vet but it's getting bigger. Anyone heard of this or seen this??

wow it does sound like what you discribed, and it is about the size of a marble and it does look like a wart. I never in a million years thought that a dog could get a wart!!! Did the vet happen to mention how to get rid of it?

If it's not dangerous then I won't think anything of it.

Thanks  ;D

We had a problem with Hutch last summer where he had a marble sized lump on the bottom of his paw. We brought him to the vet and he thought that it was initially a virus that dogs are able to get, because it didn't seem to bother Hutch much at all. I wasn't so sure about the vets prognosis and watched it for a few days. He began to show some sensitivity to it and it turned out to be an absess that required antibiotics. Within a couple of days it reduced in size and he was just fine! Good luck with your pups foot!

Please please have the growth on your dog's foot biopsied and analyzed.

A high percentage of growths in the foot area of dogs are malignant. I don't know why, but it is a fact.

I am a "worry mommy" so if my dogs have some kind of growth anywhere, that is not a 110% certain what it is, I am at the vets, bugging the cra.. out of him until I know for a fact what it is.

It is probably just a wart, but I have to agree with Red.... it would probably be a good thing to have a biopsy done, just to be on the safe side.

Please let us know what happens to it

OK, so I was talking to my brother about the growth on Athena's foot and he said that the vet told him not to worry about it, when he asked to get it removed at the same time as her spay. Well he no longer goes to that vet, and he got the growth removed, and they tested it and it was nothing, but better be safe that sorry right?
Oh and my parents don't go to that vet anymore either.
