OK, without giving away any identifying information...

Sierra came from western Ohio.  My hubby was out there for business and saw an ad in the classifieds.  The breeder was a really sweet woman.  She offered to deliver her to us for a fee, because she didn't want her pups being shipped on commercial airlines.  We offered to drive out and get her and the breeder reduced the price because we would be spending quite a bit to drive out.  We paid $600.00 for her.  Imagine having a 15 and a half hour round trip with a 16 yr old and an 11 year old in the car!  But Sierra was worth every penny.

This is a long story, so I apologize...

We were in contact with a breeder in South Carolina (we live in Texas) that we found on the AKC Newf Club website, met their beautiful 13 Newfs as a sidetrip during one of our vacations (most of which are there as their pets/retired showdogs), and fell in love instantly with the breed. We talked about getting one of their puppies once they start planning a litter. But before that could happen, one of their Newf girls in Texas was being given up by her family. We couldn't take her at the time since we were living in an apartment, so we (insanely) volunteered to drive her back to the breeder in South Carolina. We fell in love with her and she was instantly attached to us at the hip in the two days we spent on the road. It was sad parting with her. In a few short months, we moved into a house and got Rosie back from the breeder. We paid $500 (that's with a $500 discount because of our history with the breeder) plus the breeder's expenses to drive Rosie to Texas. If we'd gotten a puppy from her (which it's good we didn't wait since they haven't had a litter since), it would have been $2000.

We got Allie from a breeder in Missouri for $700 ( she was 13 weeks and her price was reduced from $1,150 ) and we got Spook from a "breeder" in South Dakota for $1,400 (reduced from $1,600)(but I wouldn't recommend her ).
