It's been a long time...
« on: June 19, 2007, 02:14:06 am »
Hi everyone!

It's been a really long time since I've been here.  The board looks really different but I'm getting used to it.  I do see quite a few names I still recognize :)

For those of you I don't know yet my name is Rachel and I own Sophie a 4 year old mastiff mix.

hi guys  :D

Business is going good no where near a full time job but I can't complain. :)  My dog toys were published on HGTV.com so that was pretty exciting.   I haven't really been up to much lately just lots of the same old...  wake up, work, sew, sleep.  :)

Hey, Rachael,
Would you share your Sophie's adoption story with the newer members. I consider it one of the best stories posted to BPO.

Oh my goodness...  her story?  Wow, I wish I had saved it!  I didn't know paw prints were going away!  Thanks Thom :)

Ok here ya go:

I really wanted an Old English Mastiff but I was still trying to convince my husband that we could handle a puppy (we were pretty newlywed at this point).  I saw the ad for Sophie (which said she was a mastiff even though she is obiviously a mix and may not even have any mastiff at all in her) on the SPCA's website and got really excited.  I told the English Mastiff Yahoo Group that I would go and look at her and evaluate her to see if anyone wanted her (not really thinking about her for myself).

Well we went to check her out on Saturday morning and it was like instant love for me.  Hubby still needed some convincing...  We played with her for a good long time and she was so happy and let me touch her mouth, paws, teeth, tail.  I just couldn't believe this great dog was homeless.  So we still needed to do some talking about whether we wanted a dog right now.  We went to say goodbye to her in her cage and she made the must horrible whiney noices.  It was horrible..  I cried..

We tried to put her on hold but they volunteer told us that they couldn't do it but that they closed in a hour and to call back on Monday when they opened.  So hubby and I did lots and lots of talking and decided when should go get her.  I call Monday morning and imagine to my suprize someone had PUT HER ON HOLD!!!  I was so upset!!

The guy that had her on hold supposedly had come in and looked at lots of dogs but never seriously took any home.  So they said to call back on Tuesday and if she was still there by close of business she was ours.  Well he never came to get her and I went right over and picked her up!

I'm sure I've missed some good details but that's all I can remember at the moment  :)
