Rosie and her best tussle buddy
« on: June 28, 2007, 10:06:57 am »
Rosie knows when a dog can take her rough play. She knew instantly when she met Barkley, an abnormally large golden retriever-poodle mix, that he could use some of Rosie's smackdown.

This is post-tussle, when the two decided to take a short break.

Rosie has a bit of a disadvantage because of her shorter endurance in the Texas heat, but she holds her own.

They make such a cute couple!  Rosie is so pretty and so is her buddy.

Awww, Rosie & Barkley look so cute cooling off together!  Our youngest son is going to love Barkley's name.  Was he named after the the dog on Sesame Street?

I don't know if he's named after the Sesame Street character. It's so sad... Barkley's family is actually moving away at the end of July. So Rosie is losing her favorite playmate.

She's adorable!!!  I live in Texas and have been considering a Newfie for my next dog.  May I ask where you got her?

You can send me a private message if you want more details, but we got her from a breeder who was once based in Austin, but has since moved to South Carolina. We've only known them since they moved to SC and have visited them once before to meet their 12 Newfs (most are retired CHs). How we got Rosie is a long story. We met the breeders and verbally agreed to getting a puppy from one of their future litters. A couple months passed and they called about Rosie, one of their 3 year-old Newfs owned by a family in Fort Worth, TX that the family decided to 'return'. They were simply asking if we knew of a way to get her back to SC from TX (flying wasn't an option as it was too hot already and the family was in a rush to return her). We [insanely] volunteered to drive her and instantly fell in love with her. She was attached to us at the hip by the end of the 2-day road trip. We couldn't take her at the time (we were living in an apartment that didn't allow big dogs) but we got ourselves ready for her (bought a house) and got her back 3 months later. We like to think it was meant to be.

Barkley's family is moving about 4 hours away... a long distance away just for a 15-minute playdate. Rosie will just have to advertise that she's single again and in search for a new play buddy.  :D
