Shaving of ear hair

Bear got another ear infection this summer (no suprise as he gets one every summer) but this time our new vet decided to shave the hair inside his ear so that it would help to keep his ear cleaner and supposedly dry out faster. Well, he seems to of cleared up the infection more quickly than before and having no ear hair does seem to have helped. So, here is my question, has anyone had this happen before? If so, do you keep the ear hair shaved?
