Poor guy...and you  :'( :'( :'(
Would E-Collar prevent from him torturing his tail?

I'm sorry for poor Merlin.   :'(

And although I hate to sound like a total dunce, but what is "happy tail"?

Thanks for explaining that to me.  :) I thought that it was probably something like that, but I hate to go on assumptions.  'Cause then I sound like a doofus if I try explaining what it is to someone and then I turn out to be wrong!  lol

So sorry to hear about Merlins' tail.  It is a big fear of mine with Gunther, especially here at my parents house as there are doorways EVERYWHERE!!

I hope it heals up w/o the need for amputation.  I will tell you though, a friend's dane needed amputation after a happy tail episode that wouldn't heal and went gangrene.  His now shortened tail healed fine, and although there is a scar on the end of it has had no problems since.  Had to amputate it down to about 12-14".  :-\

You're not a dunce, I had to explain it to the receptionist at the vets office. Danes tails are so boney and thin skinned and they fling them around so hard that if they hit a hard surface or sharp corner they can split the skin. The open wounds are hard to get healed because there is not alot of padding on the tails and they repetedly injure the same spot.

It is pretty sad BUT there is a way...you could put those protection sleeves that people use for seat belts ;D unless he will rip it off  :(

Oh poor Merlin - that tail looks so painful  :'(

I sure he will look quite dashing with a cute little tail but I hope it heals fine and stays like it is now - poor guy.

Hoping for good news from the vet!

Ouch Merlin!

Lola has 'happy tail' too at the moment. She has a 2 inch long scab that so far is healing ok.
