fanceypants101:
hi my female bullmastiff just had some puppies today and there was one thing that threw me off 2 of her puppies had curly tails i've never seen that before and i was wondering if this was a odditie that the could of inhearated from the bulldog that may show up every now and then it looks like a bulldogs tail

dogcrazyforever:
The bulldog is soooooo far back in a bullmastiff's past that it isn't likely to come out. Most likely the problem is either inbreeding or breeding that isn't true (there is possibly a mutt in there somewhere).

If both parents are registered (AKC or UKC preferably), you can rule out that there is any other breeds in the dogs' heritage. Also, with pedigrees, you can check to see if the parents are possibly from the same lines. (Which I'm sure you checked prior to the breeding.)

If both parents don't have papers (or are registered with a 'basement registry') anything is possible.

But, I'm not an expert by any means, so I cannot tell you for sure.

Either way, I'm sure they will be adorable pets!

Mojo1269:
Don't discount the posiibility of a recessive gene in the dogs geneology.  Both parents could be champions and things like a curly tail could occur (albeit rare).  As the previouse post stated, I am sure they will be adorable. Please post pictures when you have a chance.

2Criminals:
My understanding of the Bullmastiff is that it was originally created by crossing 60% Mastiff with 40%Bulldog. The Old English Bulldog in England in the 1900's is not the same English Bulldog of today. It didn't have a curly tail, or at least was not depicted as having one. That English Bulldog no long exists, although there are many breeders trying to recreate their own versions of the breed. Bullmastiffs have been breeding true for many years, so I would imagine that there is something else in the line ???
