juvenile cellulitis
« on: December 18, 2007, 11:21:52 pm »
A friend who just adopted a little poodle pup asked for my help in finding out more about juvenile cellulitis. Her puppy was just diagnosed with this and is now on predisone.

Anybody have any personal experience? The big thing (to me anyway) is she had the puppy here and now I am concerned about my dogs. Googling it is gving conflicting info on if they can catch it or not and since this is not a emergency, I don't think the vet would appreciate an after hours call, lol.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Just in case anybody else ever deals with this, this is not contagious.

Good outlook for the puppy though!

I've always heard about this by its other name "puppy strangles" I know that it is supposed to only be found in pups up to 16 weeks and its not contagious.  It has however been known to cause permenant hair loss and sometimes death if not treated correctly.

Here is a site I had bookmarked on it.

Thanks for the link!

When I was googling last night I found so much misinformation out there on this and much was conflicting! It was a relief to get ahold of my vet this morning and verify my pups were not in danger.
