question about dog show
« on: February 13, 2008, 01:08:50 am »
I was wondering why they don't let altered dogs in the show.

Thanks,
Terri

Usually at a Breed Specialty they have an altered class. There is no altered class at a regular show because your showing your dog to be the best breeding stock. If it's altered you can't breed it.

Bingo!

Altered dogs can and do show in every aspect of AKC showing, EXCLUDING the Conformation class. The conformation class is what is shown on TV at say, Westminster. The entire purpose of showing in conf. is to compare your dog to the ideal standard of the breed, and in essence, have judges tell you if your dog should be bred or not. Dogs that do well, earn their championship and score highly should theoretically be bred (Bearing health tests of course). So of course, an altered dog would be a disqualificati on :)

However, in non-akc fun matches, which a lot of breed clubs do, you can show altered dogs just for fun!
