I'm a woodworker and i decided that i'm gonna make arkyd a cart for when the snow goes.I'm not planning on any kinda competition stuff but gonna have a kid in a few months thought it would be cool if Arky boy could pull him around when i took em for walks

It would be better if you go with a wagon for that purpose  ;)

Bringing up an old thread...

is Lily still carting?  She looks pretty happy doing so, can't tell if she has issues.

I received a harness for Franklin in the mail a couple days ago from Wilczek's & I just got notification that my wagon kit is shipping from Northern Tool (just have to build the box/deck for it & have shafts made by Wilczek's).  My 3-1/2 yr old nephew is excited, he said he wants to put dirt in it  ;)

I put the harness on Frank & he took to it pretty well.  I used the traces as a lead & he went in circles until he figured I wasn't going to lead him by the collar, heh.  He then "pulled" me by the traces, gingerly, thank goodness & I gave him commands as we strolled through the yard, hoping he'll catch on that way.  I'm only doing this for recreation, pet walks, etc. with my brother's kids, no competition... I don't know how that would work anyway given he's not registered.

I'd like to hear more & how Lily's coming along...I know Katie is a bundle of nerves & wouldn't do great right off the bat (she's getting older now anyway).  I'd love to build a princess carriage & have him pull her around, lol

Yep, she is still carting! Actually, we picked up her brand new custom made competition cart at the Nationals which we are going to try tonight for the first time  ;D It's finally in the mid 70F...nice and cool :) I hope to take some pictures ;)

The start wasn't easy for us...Miss Lily was totally freaking out from shafts and it took me a looooong time to get her used to them. I took it very slowly and was using broom sticks tied to her harness for a while. Then I was walking with the cart right next to her for a couple of weeks. We haven't done any carting in 3 or 4 months so we will see how she will do tonight ::) :P
Good luck! It's fun :-*

I think I will try the broomstick deal w/ him this weekend, just to see how his reaction will be.  I know he's really going to have to push on the shafts to turn the wagon.  He's got alot of energy, but doesn't seem like a nervous dog.

I hope Miss Lily picks right back up where she left off!  Does she enjoy her harness, knowing she'll be hooked to the cart?
