Tips on introducing the new puppy to the pack?
« on: March 14, 2008, 09:57:05 am »
We are bringing our new Leo girl home in eight days!  I am so excited but a little nervous about bringing her into the family.
My SIL will be taking care of the animals overnight so we can drive most of the way to the breeder's and pick up the puppy the next day.  We will have the puppy in the car with our 6 month old baby for about 6 hours, so it's going to be a LONG ride.
So, how should we handle it when we get home?  The animals (3 dogs, 2 cats) will be super excited b/c we will have been gone for so long, so I don't know if we should just stroll in w/the new pup.  Should I try to "trick" them into thinking it's my SIL's puppy (they love visiting dogs, but McDougal goes into a snit for months after we bring a new puppy home).  No way we can do neutral territory as it will be on the later side when we get home and we live far from anything.  Should we do intros outside or in?  One at a time or all at once?  Thanks for any ideas.
