me again...with another question

My saint has been itching alot lately and chewing at
himself...He actually has chewed so much on his rear
that there is a scab.
We've checked all three dogs for fleas but there are none.
could this just be dry skin? We've tried gold bond
powder...itch spray..peroxid e...bathing him with flea
shampoo....not hing has worked...we have thought about food
allergy  so we went back to the food we fed him when he was a pup that he did so well on..(Royal Canin)
Should we take him to the vet or is there anything else
we can try? thanks again....

I would think a food allergy of some kind. You could try one of the high quality foods that have fewer ingredients that are made for dogs with allergies. My cats had allergies and do very well with California Natural, they make a dog food as well. But there are several really good foods out there, I can't think of their names right now, but I'm sure someone will know!

Little baby fleas are very hard to see and they are just starting to hatch out around here.  I agree chewing on the butt is usually fleas. I use Tea Tree Oil (can get at Walmart)on irritated areas and Peace and Kindness spray.  Both are fabulous and you see almost instant results.  Also you might want to consider Bitter Apple to stop him from chewing that area

Chewing on his butt makes me think fleas. 

Food allergy itches tend to be in other places (e.g., around the face, feet, etc.), so I doubt it's that.

and got flea and tick treatments for all dogs....also bought some tea tree oil to put on duke....thanks again

Arkyd had the same problem last year. The vet said it might be a food allergy but she wanted to see if it was a flea allergy first(he didn't have fleas but he could have been bitten by one in between his flea and tic protection) anyways she gave him a steroid shot gave us two weeks of antibiotics and another dose of flea protection 85 bucks later he was done all better

note: Now i put a sprinkle of garlic salt in his all my dogs food they do have to go around some dogs with fleas (in-laws) and that seems to help provent
