Bladder stone dissolution diet- any one had one that works?
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:20:59 pm »
I have a dachshund rescue that has bladder stones about the size of a dime. Normally I'd do a urohydropropul sion on small stones, and a cystotomy on large stones, but this dog can not be put under for surgery unless it is life threatening... she almost died when we spayed her.

We were recommended to start her on a dissolution diet to see if that would work; low magnesium, low protein and phosphorous, and slightly elevated levels of salt and a TON of water.

Anyone ever used a dissolution diet with positive results? Anyone got one to recommend??

Shawn and her
3 Golden paws
2 Kitty-paws
3 Macaws
6 lovebirds
4 ferrets
+ dozens and dozens o' rescues and fosters

Hi Shawn.  The only thing I can suggest is to join the K9Kidney group on yahoo.

Don't know how much of their info would apply
to bladder. They have a wealth of info on their site. My oldest boy is having slight kidney problems, and they have been very helpful.
Also, read the intro to this group and see if it may be of some help to you.

Good Luck.
