I learn lots of stuff from all the questions.
I have no idea what protocol is in the US!
I can only tell you what I have seen here.  I know that our
SPCA really appreciates all the work that breed specific rescues do.  They usually have a ton of resources as well.
Keep asking those questions! ;D

Tazz, Don't apologize for asking questions like this.  There are people who advertise for dogs, calling themselves rescues, who are looking to get dogs to sell to research facilities, dog fighting rings, etc.  It is always better to check something like this out, than to take a chance on a dog ending up in a living nightmare.  Here, there are a lot of rescues who have to work at not letting dogs go into the animal control facilities.  For some breeds, that is almost an automatic death sentence.  I know the dog I picked up for a rescue group this past weekend wuold have been put down immediately.  We may end up keeping her BTW.
