My Crazy Australian /BC mix
« on: May 27, 2008, 08:24:59 pm »
We have an aussie/border collie mix pup who is about 7 months old.  She is an awesome little pup.

Is it normal for her to jump into me at full speed?

She will get a good run going, then leap and turn sideways and bounce off of me.  She's never shown any sign of being hurt.

Just curious

OMGosh shes a cutie. And yep! I'd say "Sproinging" is a pretty common activity for a border collie or aussie pup (or both). Kind of like "Hey mom! *Sproing* bye mom!"

Maybe you should look into fly ball! :D

I dont own one of these little darlings but I have a client I sit for sometimes that has 7. They are all agility and frisbee dogs and they absolutely do it!  There are like two of them that expect me to catch them everytime which I have learned to do!  After the big catch I am always rewarded with many many kisses.  I really love those dogs.  When I dont want them to do this, she has them trained with hand signals to stop...doesnt always work but 98% of the time, it does!  Good luck

What an adorable pup! I second the idea of agility, frisbee, flyball, etc. Great activities for herding, high energy breeds like yours. Have fun!

Agility is the plan.  Cali's energy is amazing.  She has been catching treats since about 2 months old.  She's starting to do arial catches with a tennis ball already.

I'm trying not to work her too much since she is still a pup and her breeds have known issues with hips and such.

I'll post some videos of her antics soon.
