Our new puppy
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:32:43 pm »
Hi everyone! I posted on the General Board, but also wanted to post here and introduce myself. My husband and I are getting our Berner puppy next weekend, and we're so excited! If any of you have words of wisdom on preparing for a Berner, or just tips you've learned over time, feel free to let me know.

This is Sasha, and she's probably going to be a big girl because she was just 6 weeks old in the photo! I look forward to getting to know all of you and your pups.

Congrats on your new arrival- she is adorable.  My only words of wisdom are "LOTS of toys!"  My Tucker (5 months old now) loves to have a huge variety of stuff to play with, its so cute to see him walk over to his toy box and choose a toy, change his mind, go back for another etc...He also prefers stuffed toys as opposed to rubber, but every dog is different.

Congrats again, and welcome to the board! (I'm new too, its a great site.)

Well, we just found out yesterday that the breeder decided to keep Sasha for herself because she had the litter evaluated and it turns out that Sasha has the most potential for a show dog. Initially, she was supposed to be a pet because there was a white patch of fur on the back of her neck, but it's starting to fade. Now the breeder wants us to choose from a different girl or a boy.

We are so disappointed because she assured us that Sasha would be sold as a pet because of the patch of fur, and we started getting attached to her already. But I guess we'll have whatever puppy we're meant to have. Initally, my husband wanted a boy, so maybe it's for the best. We'll find out Sunday if we want to choose a different puppy or not. I think we're just getting over our disappointment right now.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

How disappointing!  I hope that it all works out.

Thanks! I talked to the breeder again and it turns out that the girl we were originally going to get has a heart murmur now. Hopefully everything will be ok with her. I do think that whichever puppy we were meant to have will be the one we get, so I'm not too upset anymore. On Sunday, we should be meeting our little guy ... or girl. We'll see, but we're leaning towards the boy for now. I'll post pictures once I get them.

i vote for a puppy ... period.  :)  maybe it did happen for a reason, with the heart murmur and all.  that would have been so much more heartbreaking.

Hi All! I haven't been on here for a while because our new little guy Duke has been taking up all our time lately! Yup, we ended up getting a puppy after all and he's wonderful! I have tons of pictures but can't seem to post them on here because the file size is too large.

He's almost 11 weeks now, and just a joy to have around. He's happy, loving, and chewing on everything in site. I think we'll be starting puppy training classes pretty soon. Thank you all for the words or encouragement earlier and I truly believe we got the puppy we were meant to have.

Try uploading your pictures to a site like photobucket.co m and attaching them from there. I want to see pictures of Duke!!

It's taken a while, but I've finally been able to come back with some pictures of Duke! Of course, he's grown so fast that I'll need to update them very soon. He just loves sleeping in the strangest positions :)
