Penny's got an infected incision
« on: July 28, 2008, 07:52:37 pm »
Penny was spayed last Thursday, and has been fine since the day after so I thought we were pretty much in the clear... And then tonight she was laying on the wood floor with the E-collar on, and when she stood up I saw blood on the floor (not just a drop) then I realized she had blood all over her legs   :-\

We rushed her to the vet and they said one staple has come loose and with the blood there was a little bit of pus so they think she has an infection. They re-stapled her and sent me home with anti-biotics.

Poor penny  :-\

She is not doing too great today. The wound is stapled better than it was before, but it is so oozy. There's a yellow discharge that keeps oozing out, and there was a little more blood today. I cleaned the fur on her legs but more is oozing out on to her fur, so we'll be cleaning it again tomorrow.

The toughest part is that even though I know she has an infection, she doesn't. And she's starting to get restless and active again. She is SOOOO hard to keep "quiet". It's easy to keep her on a leash and restrict her outside time, but it's really hard to keep her still in the house - especially when I can't put her in the crate! I don't want to put her in the crate cause she needs her cone on and she doesn't fit too great in tbhe crate with the cone on. I bought nand x pen today so maybe that wilpl help but it's SO hard to stop my little spastic troublemaker from being a spastic troublemaker!
