Bleeding pressure sores!!!!
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:22:34 am »
Hey, everyone!
I just adopted a six year old Mastiff who has pressure sores on his feet. One in particular has become a bleeding oozy mess....the vet confirmed that it is a presure sore. It is not a typical calloused area....more thick and squishy and if he bumps or scrapes it the bleeding starts!
I have ten years of vet tech background and know it probably cannot be excised and successfully closed.
Does anyone have any tricks or ideas about how to deal wiht these?

Poor baby. There was a type of bandage I had to use after knee surgery. I'm sorry I forgot the name, but you can get them from just about any pharmacy. They are a bit pricy. They are clear and waterproof. You cut the size you want and press while you apply and it seals like plastic wrap (Saran wrap). After cleaning and maybe some polysporin you could get a nice tight wrap around the infected spot. The wrap could help keep it closed while it heals?

Hope whatever solution you find helps him heal quickly. That must be awfully painful for the bub. :-[
