Hi -- Volunteer at local no-kill animal shelter
« on: August 11, 2005, 08:39:51 pm »
I have just joined Big Paws.  I volunteer at a no-kill animal shelter where we care for 200 dogs, 100 cats & 3 rabbits.  I own 2 dogs (Sugar - a Boxer and Chico - a Chi/Doxie) and 2 cats (Serenity - a brown Tabby and Austin - Rag Doll/Snowshoe Siamese).  Austin has turned into as big a moocher as the dogs thanks to his human sister.

Welcome, you are going to love this place.  I plan to give our local shelter a call to see if it is ok for my granddaughter and I to come by and give the dogs some treats.

Lisa, owned by the following:

Dixie Darlin - Great Pyrenees 4 yr.
Penny Lane - Great Pyrenees 2.5 yr.
Beauman - Great Pyrenees 14 months
Izzy - Great Pyrenees 14 month

We have several volunteers that help there & many people that donate food & supplies.  We are a non-profit organization with no outside funding by any government agency.  So we rely on people like you.  Thank you for helping other shelters, too.  I am sure they would appreciate these items, too.

I just figured out how to post pictures. The first picture is of my dogs Sugar - the Boxer & Chico - Chi/Doxie -- the second is Sugar with my daughter's cats - Serenity & Austin.

You would not believe the breed that is our great guard dog at the shelter at nigiht.  Everyone is afraid of him because he has attitude (that is except for the people he loves -- like me!)  He climbs in my lap, loves to have me brush him, and will take treats out of my mouth!! His name is Ben and he is a German Wire-haired Pointer mixed with Spinone Italiano. Talk about a combination.  He has the most beautiful golden eyes.

Welcome! (I am a newbie myself)! Adorable crew you have ;)!! Thanks for all of your hard work at the shelter helping these furkids who can't help themselves! It was because of someone like yourself that saved our latest addition to our family, Hank!
He is an older guy (Mastiff) very grey face......they found him dumped along side a road, very smelly and thin :'(. Because he looked so old they were going to put him down, but a volunteer at the shelter, a mastiff owner herself knew he had quality time left contacted the rescue we volunteer for and the rest is history. He lives a life of luxury here. We're the lucky ones ;)
