Dogs don't understand words like 'Come' but they sure know the important stuff!

Exactly!  Sometimes Seamus even forgets his name, unless it means getting a treat or riding in the car.  That selective hearing kills me!

Favorite words for my 2 year Shiloh Shepard Apache #1 Cookie, #2 Walk. My husband & I just spoke about this last night, our 11 month old female Shiloh, Kiya doesnt respond the way Apache does. I do have to spell if I don't want him to get all excited.

Oh sure... forget "come" or "down" but do you think she would ever forget "yum yums" or "go for ride"  Seems those just stay top of mind for some reason.  Mark and I sometimes are absolutely convinced she is a human in a dog suit!!! The conversation that take place in our house should be video taped.... of course then we would all be sent to the looney house.  :)
Thanks much,
Renee & Mark

My dogs big word is 'OUTSIDE.' They go straight to the door no matter where you are when you say it. But then they LOVE their backyard! Its where the squirrels, neighbor dogs, chew toys and bones are - its like doggie amusement park for them! lol

When I was growing up tho we had a Boston Terrier who knew about 20 words and phrases, she was SUCH a smart thing. My favorite was "Where's the kitties, Maddie?" and she'd run to the same window where she would see the neighbor's cats - whether they were there or not!

How many words do you have to spell for you r pert? We have to spell out  w-a-l-k, p-o-t-t-y, o-u-t-s-i-d-e, c-o-o-k-i-e and even a few of his friend's names. It is so funny how smart they are!

My mal  is 12 weeks old and only understands "come" when she is outside because she knows she gets a treat if we only say it once. She also understands potty and outside oh yeah and the phrase "time to eat" and ofcourse "treat" sometimes I have to tell her that she will not get a treat then she looks at me like she is the saddest puppy in the world.
