Now there is four!
« on: February 25, 2009, 03:38:14 pm »
Hello Everyone,

Well today we welcomed an Ibizan hound into the home. Her name is Parker and she is 8mo's old. She is currently here on a trial basis and may be going back to her breeder in April.

She was no longer able to stay where she was so we agreed to take her. Since I love sight hounds it's no real hard ship. Thankfully she is house trained, crate trained and grew up with cats.

Kaylee of course hates her guts and is currently being a total jerk. I'm having to keep her leashed and on a choke. I had to do the same when Lincoln arrived though so it doesn't concern me overly.

I do feel bad for my Mom though! (who is a member of this board so: Hey Mom! we got another dog.) She is coming to visit early next month for a week and is going to have to deal with my zoo. She'll either go back home really wanting a dog or deciding not to get a dog ever again.

I actually love the stage between six months and a year though. They are still doing silly puppy nonsense but they've gotten old enough to develop a brain so you can start working with them on things!

I'm not sure if Parker will become a forever member of the family or not but while she's here she's one of the pack.

Ooooh, I LOVE Ibizan hounds, they are on my list.  She's gorgeous and congrats, even if she is a short term addition.

She is really tall but lean. She's actually a little taller than my Fila Brasileiros are but she weighs considerably less.

She is also really skittish of the new place but she's spent most of her eight months in a kennel situation so I don't think she's had much of a chance to run around a house.

She is a really good girl though and gets along with Lincoln and Serenity beautifully. She'd like to get along with Kaylee but Kaylee is rather difficult to be friends with.

She'll have to stay leashed for the next couple days so I can correct her when she pulls her possessive nonsense.
I'm currently not letting my husband let them both out together. He has this horrible habit of inadvertently giving her positive reinforcement when she's being awful.

It will be interesting to see what her personality turns out to be once she calms down! right now she is spending all of her time pacing around the house. The television freaked her out completely today the poor girl.

Has anyone experienced a dog that is afraid of the house before? give me some hope that she will settle down!

She is very pretty!  I hope things work out for all of you.

When Shiner came here he was scared of the tv.  He would growl and bark everytime a guy came on the tv.  It took some time and lots of treats and he is fine with the house now.  If she is really nervous of the house and everyday stuff there is a listserv for shyk9s and they can help you with a lot of those issues.  I joined it and mostly lurk on the list but there are lots of people that have dogs that are scared in the house for whatever reason.  Pm me if you are interested in the list.

Shiner - Malinois x Ridgeback
Toulouse, Cayenne, Raven - DSH

She will. It's just all new to her. I've had rescues over the years that were the same way.
