Bella Update

My apologies for taking so long to update.

The trip to A and M was not a success. A and M is a very good place, but not for us. They advised that I take her home to die. I never got to see the oncologist or the surgeon, only a graduating student and a resident (?) Still not sure who that particular guy was in the scrubs giving me what he called options. They did not let me go into the exam room with her- and by the time that I got my hands on her- she was so upset her whole chest was soaking wet from drooling.

They did not do the CAT scan or any xrays, they just kept telling me what the statistics say and that it wasnt good- that 40% chance the tumor would come back. (40% is less than what A and M originally told me. I could have insisted on the surgery, but they were not very encouraging and I certainly do not want someone cutting on my dog if they are not excited about her chances

They gave me enough narcotics to make her happy- and said said goodbye.

Well that was breakdown number one this week. We loaded up in the truck and I called my vet. Prior to me going to A and M she had recieved some literature about a treatment that is holistic, for cancer, called Neoplasene. Dr Fox of Buck Mountain Botanicals had encouraged me to not go to A and M and to immediatley start the Neoplasene, but I am not as familiar with holistic medicine and was afraid to not go to A and M.

When I called my vet- I told her to order the Neoplasene. We got the meds in on Wednesday and immediatly started the treatment.  This is my last hope- literally. This is it and I am praying that it works- Dr.Fox was very encouraging and thats a lot more than  I got with A and M.

I have researched Neoplasene and there are a lot of positive posts about this treatment. Her tumor is starting to get ugly- so I am hoping that this means that it is working. In addition to doing this topically, we also have her on the oral treatment. She is on a special diet. And she is now taking the Essaic tea.

The Neoplasene is not with out side effects. It burns and we have had to sedate her to apply it- then remove it (per the instructions) She was very agitated wednesday nite and kept me up most of the nite- she was a bit better last nite but still a bit agitated.

This truly was the only treatment other than making her comfortable until she passed away. I still feel like I owe her more than to just give up. She is still a baby. She is still eating- and actually has gained 4 pounds since being diagnosed. She did get up and go out side today but was content to come back into the house with out lingering. Right now she is on her doggie bed in front of the TV and is sleeping- She seems content- not agitated.

There are so many people to thank, there has been such an overwhelming amount of support that I feel extremely graetful and blessed. So many people who I have never met in person, have stepped up in so many ways. Bella and I will be working on Thank You cards this weekend.

Our journey together in this fight is just starting, we have some long days and nites ahead of us. And many many more visits to the Vets office with the on-going treatment.

Thank you to all who have donated, our costs have been less than if we had proceeded with surgery, but still pretty significant- we are up to about 2100.00 now. With out you guys, this would have been even more difficult.

We are working on some more fund raisers, her treatment will probably be about 10 months in duration if we sucessfully remove the tumor with this treatment. I hope that Bella is going to be a Neoplasene success story and that she will be able to give others hope in treating this horrible disease.

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed right now- I want to know that I am doing the right thing, my heart tells me not to give up. Its kind of like that poem about the mother bear- dont mess with the baby bears. Bella is one of my baby Bears. This is a enemy that I cant physially put my hands around and strangle to make it leave my baby alone.

I think that the first 14 days of the Neoplasene is going to be the worst- I dread the worst after what has started happening with the tumor today- but if that thing is dying then I am ready for the worst to get started.

Again please accept my apologies for not updating sooner.I sometimes just sit and hold her and rub those soft little ears and tell her how much I love her and that she is the most beautiful Bella ever, so time passes and I get nothing done, including telling my friends thank you.

At least you do have a treatment.  I personally would go to a private oncology practice in your area and get another opinion just to be absolutely sure there are no other options.  And without a biopsy or advanced xrays seems to me they are operating blind here.  Having worked with medical residents for years they are not the last word. Many prayers here for Ms Bella

Oh Paige.

Those rotten horrible people at A & M.  Where is their compassion at least?  I know that there's nothing I can say to make you feel better, but I just want you to know that you and Bella are in my thoughts and I will ask Mike to say a prayer for you and her.  I'm hoping beyond anything that Bella is a success story, and that she is around mnay many more years to come.

I agree with Patrick, I would look for another opinion from a cancer specialist but keep up with the holistic treatments while I was looking. I would have thought A&M would have given you more options or at least performed some more tests to give you some real proof to what they were saying. God Bless you both, you will be in our prayers.

I am sorry to hear that you were treated so callously at A and M. They obviously need more classes in how to communicate with their human patients, and sensitivity should be a priority.
Holistic medicine can offer some amazing results, and combined with a positive attitude and lots of love, I am hoping that you will have a huge success. Keep your strength up, Bella needs you to take care of yourself as well as her in order to get through this. Sending positive energy your way, and tons of good thoughts.
