Swimming: it's not just for Newfs anymore!
« on: May 31, 2009, 01:44:57 pm »
We took Ursa out for her first real swim today.  She wasn't as enthusiastic as the Newfs and needed a little more support but she did it!  I just love this dog.  There's nothing that she won't try!

You do realize that "rare white Newf" thing is a joke right?

Hold me up Mom while I get the hang of this:

Told you a Pyr could do anything a Newf can do!!

I will certainly pass that along.  i'm taking her to the park again after work tonight.  maybe we'll go to the part where she finds her sand bar and wade.  that's about the deepest she gets in.

how do you teach them to save a person?  does someone get in the water and pretend to drown?

Yup.  That's it in a nutshell.  Even better?  The drowning victim has to call out "Help Me Dog"!  (i'm a bad Newf mama cause i think that part is hysterical!)

It's incredible to watch the dogs do it though.

that would be interesting to watch.   of course that's all grace would do...Watch...w atch that poor person drown...watch from the safety of the beach...watch the bubble suck them under.  all while looking over her shoulder like:  "isn't someone going to go in there and help?  oh...you mean ME?  Ummm.  No.  I save people on land only."

Grace and Ursa have that in common!  Ursa might be willing to patrol the yard and mark the perimeter to keep predators - or plastic grocery bags - away but she's beating me to the top floor if a flood strikes!

Grace would push me into the flood waters and ride me like a raft.   What chicken pups.
