**** I have decided I will buy a puppy which does not require to be fixed. Apparently any dog I'd adopt needs to be spayed or neutered. Thanks for all your feedback. **** Hi all it appears as though I'm the 1st to make a post in the greatest dog breeds forum ... that's the ridgeback in case you've gone senile or somethin' (he he). Anywho I live in Massachusetts and have an adequate high fenced-in yard and garden that a dog can ruin as soon as I replant my summer veggies  :o I've looked into getting a puppy but have also been looking to adopt a relatively young dog either male or female that needs a decent home. Please have records of immunizations. Need not have ridges. Must NOT have dermoid sinus. Please email me if you or someone is ie. changing their living situation by moving to the city/a condominium , financial hardship etc. and wants their baby to have a happy home. I'm pretty flexible about everything and anything so feel free to throw any questions back my way ok?! You can try my email address but am not sure if it'll be directed to my bulk mail folder which gets deleted by me automatically when I log in so.... please use this address instead dan_juris@lycos.com  thanks.

Have you tried www.ridgebackr escue.org?  They have dogs available for adoption all over the country.  Check out the Ridgeback pics on here to see my big guy, Atticus.  We live in Maine.   Don

try rrcus
the ridgeback club of the usa
on the site there is a link to rescue(usually they are already fixed)
if some one is giving up a pup with dermoid  it is easliy removed for ever by a good  vet, if it is not too far gone.(into the spinal colum)causing crippleing and severe pain. i did kno someone that took an adult rr with dermoid and the vet removed it, he is now a healthy pet.much loved.

years ago  dermoid pups were put to sleep. thank goodness , a good vet can remove it. of course it  has to be spayed or neuterd.  good luck to you!

hymmmmmmmmmmmm mm
people  that are ethical breeders want the pups fixed
it is to ensure the betterment of the breed and to stop back yard breeders(lets breed to make money, not better dogs etc)
a show dog must not be fixed, but the contracts are tough.

with all the horror stories ive heard, this is the right thing to do!

i am sorry you dont just want a loving ridgeback, you want a dog for free to ,,,,,,,,,,ummmmmmmmmmmm maybe breed
i don't think so,,,,,,,,,,,
BREED TO MAKE BETTER DOGS,, NOT MORE

And breeding is sooo much work. I don't know how, those who do it make it through! Taking care of the puppies and the mother. Feeding ect.  It is sooo much work!  I admire all the great breeders out there that can do it!

I am not a breeder and never will be a breeder.  I like to train dogs to be working personal service dogs.  ALL of my dogs have been spayed or neutered and I would never have it different.  It makes me feel sad because Niki just loves pups and when she sees them she will stay all night with them and shake all over with excitement.  She would have been a wonderful mother but alas, never to be.  My experience with ridgebacks is that they are very intelligent and bond easily with their family.  I would love to adopt a ridgeback mix some day, neutered or spayed of course,  and was only curious about dermoid, I have never heard of it.  Twas not a big deal.

I just notice how much Niki and my Harley look alike! Harley is a Lab rotti mix too!
And she loves puppies, when we got Dilbert she was taking care of him like he was her puppy, and she still does. It is soo cute.

I would never be a breeder either, I couldn't do it, I am more of a rescuer, healer of animals. (Nothing against breeders  ;D, you all do great work)
All my pets are S/N too, I can't handle the heat cycle and hmm the over excited males  ;D
