Pedigree Programs
« on: August 28, 2005, 09:21:33 pm »
My pedigree program died.  It was an old one and the company is no longer in business (as far as I know).  The program was DogBytes.
Since I have to replace it, I was wondering what, if any, programs everyone is using.  What are your likes and dislikes of the program you're using, etc.
Thanks.

It tracks your dogs ancestors and puts them on a Chart.  So if you look at it you can see who your dog's granmother on it's dam side was and how many titles she had.  Some pedigrees even allow for color.

It's a software program that keeps track of pedigrees.  You can also get programs where you can keep all your records, such as show records, notes on judges, health (vaccinations, illnesses, etc.), along with pedigrees and breeding information.  Some even have contracts in them (sales, stud, etc.).

Sounds kinda fancy but wouldn't you have that information on their pedigree when you get the dog from your breeder?

Yes, it's on the pedigree.  But I have 300+ pedigrees on my computer, so I can trace some of my dogs back to the 1930's.  I also keep track of all their health issues, vet visits, etc.  OFA #s, who has what dogs, etc.  It's a lot of information, but genealogy (human and canine) is kind of a hobby of mine.

Wow, that's pretty cool.  I would love to go back and get more of a family history for Guther.
