THis is interesting.  Go to this site and go to About me/Chi Info, and click on Merles.  Lots of pics.

See Ang you didnt quote a crazy hack LOL Very interesting. I know nothing about Chihuahuas, all I know is when I get my second [yes I am sure I will get another chi, but not soon] I want one from a good breeder that is healthy and not small like Diesel. Maybe you can see what you can find on those Gray, I think thats what they are called, Chihuahuas LOL

He is adorable though, and I adore merles, but I have my life's limit of mojos at the moment lol.

I have my limits on doggies in the house, set by my Husband LOL. But one day I will get another chi and I love those Grey ones, just dont know if that is another of those BYBs colors  ???

I came across a really great site.  She does not seem to be a backyard breeder, as she shows some of the chis.  She does carry merle color, as well as an occasional brindle.  She explains the arguements on breeding merles.  Chi breeders seem to be split as to whether they should or should not breed that color.  From what I understand after reading her website is that ANY color is accepted.

I've kept this website on file for future reference, as I relly like her chis, and the prices don't sound to far out.  Who knows, maybe I will even get one someday.

If Chi merles follow the same resessive gene pattern as danes and border collies it can cause alot of problems with congenital eye problems and deafness, as well as still borns and other birth defects. Although naturally occuring in some of the best lines, merles are better not being bred exclusively for health reasons. I've done alot of research on dane genetics for a freind of mine that wanted to breed her merle, and ultimately she decided against it.
