Hullo!
« on: April 14, 2005, 10:28:42 am »
New here.  Just looking around.  While I don't have a newf or saint or mastiff, I do have Flatcoats and some of them have very big paws!

I do all sorts of stuff with my dogs:  conformation, obedience, agility, hunting and have tried tracking as well.  I live with another Flatcoat breeder and her husband, and we love our dogs and our breed.  My avatar dog is my pride-n-joy, Viggo, who is just 20 months old and from Denmark.  He is my best buddy!  Looking forward to reading other posts and figuring out who is who.

Welcome. We all look forward to getting to know you better as well. Your baby looks so handsome in his avatar. What made you choose the flat coated retrievers?
Hugs,

Hi - I'm in the UK and also a Flattie lover.  Just got Elsa who is 8 months old, but unfortunately she has slipping kneecaps, so is having to have operations.  Here is a great pic of my previous Flattie.  http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/plotmasters1/hollybeach.jpg
There is really no other breed once you've had a Flattie - they are so funny!

Oh, I've been following the saga of poor Elsa!  I, too, have had a Flatcoat with bad knees.  I bred her, and she was the 6th generation born in our household.  We had never had a problem before, and I outcrossed to a Norwegian dog and ended up with my beautiful pick girl having luxating patellas.  Glory's surgeries went extremely well and if you saw her now, you'd never know she had ever had a problem.

If you'd like to see her and read about her knee, go here:  http://www.evensongfcr.com/wabana/glory.html

I sure hope that this next surgery is Elsa's last.  Poor dear!

Hi Wabana - thank you for that story.  I have been to your site and read about Glory.

Elsa's luxation was grade III or IV.  The better leg is now showing a lump on the outside and so I hope it has not gone again, but x-rays on Monday will show if it has.  On Tuesday we see the ortho specialist for an op on the bad leg and will see what he think.

She is a wonderful pup and so patient.  It will be good to see her at the beach when she is better.

Hi there, and nice to have a fellow scandinavian friend on here. I live in the US for about 5 years now, but I am swedish. So I am glad to have you with us here. we now have Bullmastiffs and OEM, also Siberian Husky and Golden mix the two latter rescues. Many years ago I adopted an older flat, he was going to be put to sleep, because his owner got tired of him never "growing up" He was the most lovable dog ever, so friendly and sweet, I just couldnt believe someone was actually thinking about putting him to sleep. The only problem we had with him, was that he hated thunder and fire works, but with a bit of work and planning, that worked out pretty well too.

Hope to hear more from you, and I'd love if you kept me a little updated on whats happening up there in regards to Swedish kennel club and the danish kennel club also.

Hi - well we've had more problems.  Latest operation went OK, but very quickly followed by severe infection.  2 more lots of anti-biotics and she has been very sorry for herself.

However, today for the first time I took her for a little stroll - only about 40 yards and back, but she actually toe-touched occasionally which is a big improvement.  Only a little, but at least she tried and didn't cry.

Poor girl - will be so relieved when she's normal again and can go out properly.

Hi there - how nice to see there are Flatcoats in Poland!  Elsa continues to recover from her surgery and is now getting frustrated not going out.  We start hydrotherapy sessions beginning of June.  Thank Goodness I'm insured.  Jean
