German shorthaired pointer

I just got a new puppy - he's a lab/german pointer mix but looks nearly 100% pointer.  are there any tips on raising/training him?  He has been a bit of a challenge, compared to my other two dogs.  housetraining has been a pain.   He has really long legs and a lean body.  a sweetie.
