had a great time in Raleigh over the Labor Day circuit.
On Friday, under Breeder judge Lew Olson I was WB for 2 points. This makes 3 points for Penny so far. She is 13 months old. Despite my dismay at a tailed dog going WD, I thought that Lew did a good job judging. She was gentle with the dogs, gave a thorough exam, her ring instructions were clear, and it was obvious that she enjoyed what she was doing.
On Saturday, under judge Bill Lee we were second to what I would consider a much lesser bitch than my puppy. For the first time ever I went to the judge after his assignment was complete to ask why. With my dog in tow, of course. He replied that he put her second because "of her bite". I had to then ask why, since her bite, altho it is tight, is NOT level. He replied it was "too close" for him.
Mark him down for my DNS list.
I judged Best Puppy in Match at the Salisbury Kennel Club match Saturday evening. I gave the nod to a very nice young Boxer puppy dog. Very clean coming and going, he has a gorgeous head, topline, expression, and a big side gait with lots of reach and drive. There was also a stunning English Cocker puppy in the running and I had a hard time choosing between the 2.
On Sunday we were Best of Opposite sex to Best in Sweepstakes under Breeder judge Cathy Rubens.
Sweepstakes wins carry not CH points, but DO carry a lot of prestige, and I really enjoyed having this win under my longtime friend Cathy.
This makes 3 CH points for my pup, and we seem to be well on our way!!
