JPS (Juvenile Pubic Symphysidesis) procedure recommendations
« on: September 06, 2005, 06:39:36 am »
I have one more question?  Has anyone had JPS performed to their Great Pyr.  I guess I'm asking should it be done or not.  My friend's Vet is recommending this be done to prevent future hip dysplasia for his Puppy Pyr?
Thanks to all for the recommendation s on the DEW Claw Removal question.

Did Dyson's parents have CHD? If not in his gene pool, then I'd say no.

And when are you going to give us new pictures of him??? Am I going have to start scolding you like I do Gypsy???

I agree with everyone here, only if there is a history in his family line. I would go with suppliments of glucosamine before surgery. I have heard that many dogs have done really well with the suppliments, and any signs ofdiscomfort and trouble with movement vanished.

;D, My puppy, Eowyn, Had the procedure done at the age of 13 weeks.  The older the dog is, they will not be able to have to procedure....  I was very scared about having it done, but I have to say, that I am extrememly happy that I did...  She now has a 95% chance of NEVER developing any symptoms from the disease... Before the procedure, she was unable to run, manuever stairs, or jump.  Now!!! OMG she is the most rambunctious creature around! She is absolutely PERFECT.  I would recommend this surgery for any puppy that is diagnosed with HD. It will save you and your baby years of sorrow.
