Katrina Donations - Lets Decide
« on: September 06, 2005, 01:27:47 pm »
Ok.. should we compile a list of charities and vote?

So far I've seen Noah's Wish and the Humane Society.
Any others?

I vote for Noah's Wish since that seems to be directed totally to the Katrina victims at this point.

Noah's Wish...We really don't know if the $'s donated to the HSUS will actually help the animal victims of Katrina or maybe go for advertising, education & the such.

That's good thinking. This should be investigated further if we donate to them. I vote for Noah's Wish.

Noah's Wish has my vote. Keep it simple, the bigger the organization the less money gets to the actual need.

Well, you all know I vote for Noah's Wish and can testify to all the work they are doing. From before the storm hit to still daily, Noah's Wish volunteers have been in contact with me. They were going to come here first, but when the storm turned a little more east than we expected I urged them to go to Slidell instead.

Regardless of that, from before the storm to now, they have been sending me reports of pets left behind in the New Orleans area so I can either try to get in there or network to others to help save these animals. Everyone who helps out with this organization is a volunteer and they flock from all over the country to help when disaster strikes. I don't even think the founder, Terri Crisp pays herself. (and even if she does, she truly deserves it and I can guarantee she's not getting rich off it). Even the media coordinator has a "real job" in addition to all she does for Noah's Wish.

I think Noah's Wish, too. Blue and BluePrintsShop .com have set up a new design with ALL those procedes going to Animal Rescue in the hurricane/flood areas. I was originally thinking about HSUS or North Shore, but now seeing those stats, I'm re-thinking which charity really does the most. I'm going to change where I send our donations. I'm hoping we raise a lots of money...my heart  aches everytime I see those poor animals on CNN!
