Bear and Cody and Chair
« on: September 08, 2005, 12:28:13 am »
Here are some shots I thought you might enjoy of Bear and Cody while working at my house training for therapy dogs.  When all is done we will present to all of you the first three dogs of the Fresno chapter of Therapy Dogs International: Bear, Cody and Niki.  We will be very proud of them - they are all doing so great.

I like how Bear is looking up a Niki..."Hoh, boy!  You're gonna get in trouble now!!  Look how Cody and I are good and on 'down'!"

Great pics!  I noticed the great 'down-stays', too!  I want to know - does Bear give hugs naturally, or did you train him to do it?  Both Casper & Bella wanted to put paws on shoulders as a greeting....I trained Casper out of it because he is so big & I was worried he'd scare someone who didn't know that this was a greeting, not agression...Be lla's working on not putting paws up on my shoulders...I have the same concerns with her - she's taller than me (I'm 5' 8 1/2") when she puts her paws up....someone that didn't know how sweet she was wouldn't understand that she just wants to say "hello" & sniff noses.  Is there a way to train her to do it on command, not just when she wants too?

Laurie,
I did train Bear to give me hugs as a baby. He knows not to jump on me unless I tell him too (though sometimes he does when he is super excited). He usually only gives hugs like in the pic though when I am on my knees and tell him to "hug mom".
Hugs,
Jaime
